The word derogatory means something which is derogative. It expresses a low opinion of someone or something. The synonyms of the word derogatory are pejorative, disparaging, critical, insulting, offensive, deprecating and belittling. The antonym of the word derogatory is complimentary.
Something I know about derogatory words is similar with stereotypes, judging especially in a negative way, and disrespectful.
As far as I know, or maybe us if we met someone who is tattooed then in our mind will judge them as a hoodlum (preman) or something bad and under estimate them, especially if they look ferocious (ganas), or fierce (garang), has a stocky body (kekar) then, we will feel afraid of them.
Tattoo is an art; it’s same with body painting. Painted on the skin by pricking the skin with a fine needle and then insert dye into the puncture marks were.
Many of the people who tattooed have the meaning of the tattoo; they want to express their feeling by tattooing on their skin.

_BATAK STEREOTYPES_

Simply, we know that stereotype is an image or idea of a particular type of person or thing that has become fixed through being widely held. Stereotyping is an opinion or prejudices about people from certain groups, in which the opinion is based only that these people are included in that particular group. Stereotyping can be both positive and negative, stereotypes are rarely accurate, usually only have a few basic right, or even completely fabricated now.
At that time, I will tell you about Batak stereotypes. Why do Batak people, especially for the men are rough, tough, don’t respect others  and often (usually) confident because that character is generally arise / emanate Batak cultural roots who lives hard and taught to never give up in any situation that faced. It is mostly men who made the Batak were resilient in all the problems and issues faced. Broadly speaking, the man had hereditary nature of the implanted should be a winner from each other.
Basically all men are same. What distinguishes a successful man is between one and another is strong determination & struggle facing difficult situations in his life, because successful people in any aspect of this world are the winners of the brave and willing to face this difficult life, because of the Batak people (generally) most like assertiveness and confidence in the opinions & choices in everything including reflected through said words. So rare that the Batak people he spoke with smooth and gentle. Culturally too, the physical conditions in North Sumatra, the Batak people live in the area of mountains and valleys around Lake Toba, so accustomed to speaking in a loud voice, loud and clear.
Batak people often underestimate people because he believes he's better than anyone else. If the people who often consider themselves to stay ahead because the Batak people usually have very high self-esteem, as a form of culture and heritage, so it has always wanted to be in the forefront of every person. This is the positive characteristic of the Batak people in general.
Therefore, not all the Batak people are like that stereotype there are many of them are gentle like Javanese, and not all the Javanese ate gentle maybe there are many of Javanese are rough. That is just from the culture or the habit that commonly taught by a family and according to the environment in which we live. I have proved that, because around me there are many Batak people, and not all of them are rough, tough or rude. That is just the brave characters of Batak people, so don’t judge something or someone immediately before know the truth or find the reality from the people that concerned.

New Culture..

I have experienced with my neighbors, because I live in the environment of International School so there are many foreigners around me. I have a neighbor, besides my house. They are Mr. Collin, Mrs. Retno and Elicia is the daughter, they are English. When they lived there, there is no many differences of culture because Mr. Collin married with Indonesian women. They do the activities just like usual, because the wife has taught about Indonesian culture to Mr. Collin and the daughter. Eating rice for breakfast, lunch and dinner, but sometimes with bread or another western meal. Mr. Collin loves hygiene, so he asked the housekeepers to clean the house three times everyday. An English man is a hard worker, always on time, discipline. Mr. Collin taught his daughter to respect the others, especially the members of the family (Nanny, housekeeper, etc), for example when a Fasting day the daughter wanted to play all day long with the Nanny, but the Nanny is a Moslem and has fasting, so Mr. Collin asked his daughter not to played and allow the Nanny to take a rest until the time of Break the fasting. That is the new culture, I mean the foreigner culture that adopted Indonesian culture, and because they live in Indonesia they try to learnt the culture of Indonesia, try to speak Indonesian.

Another neighbor is Mr. Kirk’s family; they are Mr. Kirk, Mrs. Laura, Semmes and Gram is the son, they come from Montana, as an American they eat Bread and sometimes eat rice. I met them when Idul fitri, Gram through in front of my house and I we introduced ourselves, and immediately he and his family came to my house and brought cake as a introduction cake ^^, the things that surprised for them that Indonesian people are friendly, share food and serves drink, they love it.
They always open the window, although it’s night. They said that they love the fresh air, the night’s air, wow really different with us! And wherever they go, no matter the distance whether it’s near or far they still use helmet and another safety, which I know the kids love to hanging when they use public transportation.
